Social Programme

Sunday 16th May

Trainees Dinner
Young and vibrant, the brilliant brasserie, Le Petit Blanc, hosts trainees for dinner on Sunday evening. The meeting of minds starts here.

Monday 17th May

Corporate Members Evening
If you can make it - and we hope you can - welcome to Bobby Browns The Club. The theme is ‘Monochrome’, wear black, white, grey or silver, enjoy hot and cold meat/vegetarian buffet food; be dazzled by Steve Goodall’s band Kinda Blue. Chat in our quieter corners, disco dance the night away. This is corporate sponsored hospitality at its best.

Tuesday 18th May

Rockface
An adrenaline pumping evening alternative, accessible to people of all ages, fitness and abilities. The Rockface in Birmingham is one of Europe’s premier indoor climbing and caving centers. Whether you’re a climbing and caving novice or budding Chris Bonnington, we’ve arranged instruction and you’ll have a superb active night out.

Halfpenny Green Vineyards
'Grape to bottle explained'. Join the guided tour of this 20 acre vineyard set in the South Staffordshire countryside. Red and white wines are both produced here and you will be given a tutored tasting of at least 4 wines along with a light hearted talk and slideshow. The evening finishes with a hot meal in the 17th century oak barn. (A prompt departure from Birmingham to maximise the light is required.)

Explore Birmingham on Foot
The face of Birmingham continues to change. Our walking tour will show you something old, something new, public art and dinner too. Led by a well-known figure in the ACB this promises to be great fun.

Ten Pin Bowling
A popular and thoroughly enjoyable experience at Bowlplex located in the new £70 million leisure venue, Broadway Plaza. Just a stone’s throw away from our Broad Street hotels, on the site of the old Children’s Hospital at Five Ways. It has 20 computerised, state of the art lanes and food at the licensed Stadium Bar and Grill. Then when you’ve bowled and eaten, step onto the dance floor - it’s party time.

Symphony Hall - The City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra
A night at the opera with a real difference. Elgar’s Serenade for Strings, Op.20, Finzi’s Dies Natalis and Holst’s Savitri. The Planets composer Gustav Holst’s short opera Savitri has been described as a neglected gem, a setting of a tale from an ancient Indian epic, the Mahabharata. The account of this beautiful story features UK and Indian dancers. Where Savitri uses her cunning to win victory over Death, who has taken away her husband, Finzi’s rapturous setting of the poetry of Thomas Traherne is a meditation on the moment of birth.

Golf
Our only afternoon event, the golf tournament returns to Sandwell Park Golf Club. Compete for the ACB trophy, donated by Ronan McSwiney in 1984, on this challenging wooded heathland course. Dinner at the Clubhouse in the evening.

Dinner in hotel
For those not taking part in any of the social events.

Focus Fringe
Late night jam session at the Bread & Roses, Centenary Square. Have fun and support a local charity! Go here for further details and to reserve tickets.

Wednesday 19th May

Conference Banquet
We’re having a magical evening at the Botanical Gardens, an oasis of delight in Birmingham created by John Louden, Scottish landscape architect. Aperitifs and serenades in the Palm Bar and the lovely grounds if the weather is kind. We dine in the Garden Suite approached through the magnificent Tropical and Terrace Glasshouses and move on to the Terrace Suite with its sprung dance floor for our celebratory disco dance.
